Nitrous Oxide

We offer inhalation sedation to help your child relax during dental treatment. Inhalation sedation involves the use of a nitrous oxide and oxygen mixture (Laughing Gas), which is delivered through a small nasal mask.  This inhalation sedation produces a pleasant sensation that can help your child relax.  It also reduces the sense of pain and increases the acceptance of treatment, including, for example, the administration of local anesthesia.

Inhalation sedation is very safe, has no side effects and leaves your child's system quickly. While on inhalation sedation, your child will remain fully conscious and responsive during the treatment. When the procedure is completed, the nitrous oxide will be turned off and your child will be placed on 100% oxygen for approximately 5 minutes.  After 5 minutes of breathing oxygen, nitrous oxide is completely eliminated  from your child's system.
